The FOCUS Project has been moving along in the past few months with the bulk of the activity in the Mountain Rest and Long Creek Areas of the County.  We have now installed 200 miles +/- of conduit of the original 245 miles and we are approaching 175 miles of fiber optic cable. The project started out in the urban areas and progress was slow.  Once we got out into the more rural areas of the County the pace picked up.  We are on schedule to complete construction of the conduit in the first quarter of 2013.

Out of the 150+ anchor institutions, 96 have completed the installation phase for conduit.  Out of those, 60 have had the necessary hardware installed to bring the connection up.  All of the schools have been connected and 20 are now actively testing their connections in preparation for switching over.  The hardware for the County Fire Stations has arrived and preparations are being made to assemble and install this hardware.

The three Network Operations Centers, NOCs for short, are fully operational. The core ring is up and traffic is moving throughout the network.

As we move into the first quarter of next year, we will be winding down construction activities and begin inspections with remediation of any open issues.  Connection to the network for Anchors will move forward with many of them seeing their connections go live and carry traffic.

We want to thank you for your patience and interest in the project as we work diligently to provide a great asset to Oconee County and its citizens. More exciting news to come as we work hard to complete this project.
